Bears under protection
More than 20 polar bears, including ten cubs, have gathered on the shore of Kolyma Bay in Yakutia, waiting for the ice cover to break to go out to sea.

Every fall, polar bears gather on the shore of Kolyma Bay to wait for the ice to break up on the East Siberian Sea, then continue west on thin ice through the Bear Islands Nature Reserve.

The annual protection of bears in the fall and the creation of a new nature reserve "Bear Islands" in Yakutia in 2020 are beneficial for the polar bear population.

Conservationists have been working in this region since 2008, but this is the first time so many cubs have been here in the fall. This year, the Tigrus Foundation is helping inspectors repair snowmobiles.
